A worker describes their excitement about jade tech. Worker: You're one of the who came with the Tyrian delegation! Tell me, our jade tech...it's unique isn't it? Everyone has their own innovations. Mmm, I see. Well, I'm happy with ours... My cousin Lin works at one of their substations and she's always bringing home little things... The other day, it was a machine to suck up leaves! Oh, how...nice. A tengu is asked about traveling to central Tyria. Villager: With borders opening, have you thought about heading north? See where the other tengu settled? Veteran Tengu Assassin: I...I don't know. That was never an option before. Do you think we'd have anything in common? An aristocrat is impressed by the commander's fashion choices. Aristocrat: Stand still! Please! Let me get a look at you... Where's my assistant? She simply MUST get a look at you and this ensemble you're wearing. This...is...FASHION! Where did to buy it? I must know! Uh, not from anywhere around here... I don't suppose you'd be willing to tell me who your designer is? I must pick their brain. Everything my designers keep bringing me is so tired! So done! This is a revolution! I don't think I can help, sorry... A tengu attempts an...unconventional mercantile exchange. Veteran Tengu Warrior: New Kaineng law clearly states that merchants must provide a reasonable return policy when the customer is dissatisfied. Villager: But...such laws don't apply to purchases of consumables. That's why they included the term "reasonable." Veteran Tengu Warrior: That is because you cannot easily...one second... Veteran Tengu Warrior: (regurgitating noise) Veteran Tengu Warrior: Cannot easily return such consumables, the way we can. What...why has your face turned that shade? Villager: Excuse me... A pair of anglers debate proper licensure for their trade. Villager (1): Did you renew the fishing permits like I asked you to? Villager (2): We'll be fine. No one ever asks to see them. It's just a rubbish hoop they make everyone jump through. Villager (1): Well, let's hope that doesn't come up at my dinner with the Minister of Trade tomorrow. Two Canthan citizens discuss the border reopening. Villager (3): Did you ever think we'd live to see Cantha reopen to the world? Villager (4): Only in my dreams. I've always pictured boarding a massive ship, sailing the world... A common fisherman makes an unusual bait choice. Commoner: Oh, I haven't seen you around here before. Say, you wouldn't happen to have any mystic clovers, would you, friend? Uhh, what are the mystic clovers for? They make excellent bait! My uncle swears that he caught a leviathan using a dozen mystic clovers. If you've any to spare, I sure would appreciate it. Sorry, I don't. A peasant approaches the commander with a dubious proposal. Peasant: I wasn't—oh, you're not with MinSec. Good. Good. Yeah, that probably looks... Uh, you know what, maybe you can help with me something? Is it...less than lawful? Nonsense. It's perfectly legal, though maybe in a gray area that MinSec might frown on, but can't really enforce... And that's where I'm gonna stop you. An aristocrat welcomes the commander to New Kaineng. (If asura) Aristocrat: Oh, forgive me, master... asura? We haven't seen your people in Cantha in quite a long time. My husband was just telling me about newcomers. Welcome to Kaineng! (If charr) Aristocrat: (gasps) You startled me! It's been so long since we Canthans have seen charr... Please, forgive my reaction. My husband would tease me for being so rude... (If human) Aristocrat: Outlander. My husband told me that a group from northern Tyria was visiting our country. I hope you're finding a warm welcome in Cantha. (If norn) Aristocrat: Oh! So...tall! Err, um, sorry. That was quite rude of me! I'd only heard of new people in our land, but had not yet seen one in person until now. My husband will be so jealous. (Otherwise) Aristocrat: Yes? I-oh, my, are you...a ? My husband was hoping to meet one of the delegation members, and yet here I am, speaking with you. I hope you're finding Kaineng enjoyable. We're happy to be here. We're not putting on our best face at the moment... We're being plagued with random outages and brownouts. But if Cantha were a brain, Kaineng would be its "pleasure center." You have an interest in current events? I might have skills that can help with that. You have an interest in current events? Mostly my husband, truthfully. He loves staying in the know, and I love seeing his excitement for it, so I try to spark his interest in it as much as I can. We're happy to be here. Thank you for speaking with me. Sorry, I should be going. A commoner gives some reading recommendations. Commoner: Have you read "The History of the Ministries" by Dahn-Ji? I think it should be required reading for anyone new to Kaineng, or Cantha for that matter. I haven't had much time to read since I got here. Well, I guess I can't blame you. Shing Jea, New Kaineng...there's plenty to see and do for someone new to our shores. But I highly recommend it, when things slow down. I'll keep your recommendation in mind.
