They can also be grabbed afterwards, which is more convenient for the 3 Inquest Journals since they are found near the end of the instance. Freebooter's Journal: Found in the corridor immediately after the first inquest group, right next to the door at the end. Inquest Journal 1: Found atop a trap on the middle landing of the staircase. Make sure to trigger the trap and dodge away backwards if trying for Crypt Creeper at the same time. Inquest Journal 2: Found in the lower right corner of the penultimate landing of the staircase. Be aware that a rolling boulder respawns at that spot, so try to grab it immediately after it rolls away. Inquest Journal 3: Found to the left in the Seer tomb at the end.
