Currently, the number of teams able to participate in a single tournament is capped at 100. If there are less teams than the maximum number of unique placement rewards in a tournament (16 in daily, 32 in monthly), then those teams will receive those placement rewards and NOT the participation reward. The "looking for group"-window has a "player vs player" - "tournaments" section where people usually search for other players to form groups about 15 minutes before an automated tournament starts. Common group name abbrevations "g" = gold ranking, "p" = platinum.
