Ranger - Core Power Ranger

Variants

• - works great if you swap pets often.
• - if you are going to camp longbow, but you will do less damage.
• - when not running Frost Trap and/or more dodges are needed.
• - can enable an alternative playstyle where you run 2 longbows and use this trait to cast every weapon swap. This playstyle is very vulnerable to projectile block/reflect and lacks mobility, but can be very fun.

Damage

• Thanks to 先发制人+优势物种+猎食突袭 you will start fights with great burst damage.
• Aim to use your damage skills while the enemy is disabled or has its movement impaired to benefit from 猎食突袭.
  • Your damage skills are 高速连射 and 万箭齐发 on longbow, and all axe skills on axe-axe. Cast 分裂之刃 in melee range for maximum damage.
  • The following skills are great for enabling Predator's Onslaught: 万箭齐发, 寒冬撕咬, and 冰霜陷阱.
• Longbow works great for starting fights with Barrage and Rapid Fire, but has very low sustained damage. Swap to axe-axe after Barrage and Rapid Fire to deal more damage. Axe also works great against groups of enemies since all its attacks strike in an AoE or bounce.
• Use your pet's Beast skill off cooldown to trigger 直扑咽喉 to increase your pet's damage.
• When possible, attack from behind or the rear to enable 捕猎战术. This isn't required when fighting enemies with a defiance bar such as bosses.

Defense

• 猎手暗箭 can be used to disengage with stealth.
• Against dangerous enemies, send a tanky pet in first with Attack My Target (F1) so they tank for you.
• Remember to always dodge and sidestep attacks if possible.
• 回旋防御 can be used to reflect dangerous projectiles.
• 寒冬撕咬 maintains permanent 虚弱 on your enemy.
• Swap your pet when their health gets low to prevent them from getting downed. If your pet gets downed, Swap Pet's cooldown is greatly increased.
• 格挡反踢 to block attacks if wielding a greatsword.

Crowd Control

• 近身平射
• 伤痕轨迹
• 剑柄猛击 if wielding a greatsword
• 格挡反踢 ⇒ Counterattack Kick if wielding a greatsword
• Some pets also have crowd control on their Beast skill (F2)
• Soft crowd control such as 冰冻 or 残废 from 寒冬撕咬, 冰霜陷阱, and 万箭齐发.

Weapon Variants

• Greatsword - can replace longbow for more mobility and a block, and more or less the same damage.
• Sword - replaces longbow or mainhand axe, has two leaps and about the same damage as axe, but in melee range.

Skill Variants

The suggested skills aim to create windows of burst damage through 猎食突袭, but other skills can be considered:

Healing skill

"同心治疗！" is your best heal skill because of its short cooldown, good heal, and lets you and your pet share your boons with the other.

• 治疗之泉 - can be considered for fights where you need a lot of condition cleanse.

Utility skill

冰霜陷阱 deals great damage and chills the enemy for great synergy with 猎食突袭. You should almost never replace it. "快保护我！" is a great stun break that also gives you a bit of barrier. It also breaks stun on nearby allies. Can be replaced by other skills if needed, though we recommend you always keep one stun break. 风暴精魂 deals good damage and stuns while providing fury. Can be replaced by other skills if needed.

• "给我守住！" - extra defense.
• 闪电反射 - alternative stun break and extra dodge.
• 和风疾行 - alternative stun break and quickness.
• "干掉他们！" - can be used with offensive pets for single target burst.
• 新生纹章 - AoE condition cleanse.
• 磐石纹章 - extra toughness and a panic button.
• 尖刺陷阱 - if you need more CC.
• 磐石精魂 - 圣盾 and 保护 generation, can be considered in group play.
• 旭日精魂 - 威能 generation, can be considered in group play.

Elite skill

"群攻之力！" provides a good mix of offensive and defensive boons. Other options can be considered.

Pet Variants

• We suggest using a feline or a bird since they have the highest damage, especially Lynx with its Beast skill (F2) and Hawk with its Beast skill (F2) . For your other pet, you can use a tanky pet such as Brown Bear or a pet to inflict crowd control such as Boar which has crowd control on its skills, and its Beast skill creates a bundle rock for you to pick up and inflict more CC. If you have access to expansions, use Jacaranda for its high damage and survivability. Below are some other alternatives.

High damage pets

• Jacaranda, any feline such as Lynx, and bird such as Hawk.

Good mix of damage and crowd control

• Smokescale, Rock Gazelle, Boar, any canine such as Alpine Wolf.

Good on-demand crowd control

• Rock Gazelle, Pink Moa, Electric Wyvern, Wolf.

Tanky pets

• Drakes such as Marsh Drake provide the best mix of damage and tankiness, but bears, porcines, and devourers are also very tanky pets.

Ascended gear is not required; exotic with the same stats will work fine.

If you are gearing this character from zero, start with exotic quality gear. Search the trading post for "Nika" armor. Then search for the weapons you want to use: "Serpentstone" mace, "Maw of the Damned"/"Shattered Axe"/"Serpent's Wrath Axe" axe, "Ebonblade" greatsword, "Impaler" spear, "Ironfist" hammer, or "Eir's Longbow" longbow. • You can use to trade a minor amount of damage for sustain, to start combat with boons, or for a little extra defense.
• For defense, equip the highest tier Jade Core you can afford. Use defensive food or skills if required.
